SNPVista: Malaria
With a set of internationally leading collaborators, the Malaria SNPVista is a scientific communication web tool (www.pathogenseq.org) that allows researchers worldwide to extend and examine (visually and geographically) the most complete set of genetic data of the malaria genome, split by chromosome, gene, SNP and location.
Analysis and Modelling of Butterfly (Melissa Blue) Movement and Mating
This manuscript combines the statistical analysis of GPS tracking data of butterfly movement and derived computer simulations to produce inferences on the impact of habitat changes on mating success of the Melissa Blue butterfly in the South West USA.
Integral equation and Nyström methods for overturning water wave problems
In the area of fluid dynamics, this paper is an extension and combination of my two previous works on unsteady water waves. A unique formulation of the surface, parametrised by arc length, enables overturning waves to be considered in the half-plane problem.
Genome-wide association study into Duchenne's disease
In collaboration with a group at the Institute of Child Health (UCL), we are investigating genetic associations between differing classifications of Duchenne muscular distrophy. Duchenne's is a muscle wasting disease with symptoms appearing in childhood and suffers have a life-expectancy of approximately 20 years. We have found a number of new associations between SNP mutations and indels.
Numerical analysis of diffusing vortex rings
With Prof. Fraenkel (University of Bath), we are extending his existing body of work on Navier-Stokes problems, specifically in this case the problem of a three dimensional diffusing vortex. We are increasing the order of accuracy as well as examining the high (to infinite) Reynold's number case with interesting results.
