In the Department of Non-communicable Disease Epidemiology, we work on new statistical methods to improve the power of tests on genomic data to test disease association.

Working with Prof. Fraenkel FRS on diffusing vortex ring problems arising from the Navier-Stokes equations. A combination of numerical simulation and analysis into a complex problem in the field of fluid dynamics. Funded by the Leverhulme Trust.

A mixture of contract and project-based work; with two hiatus to take the opportunities to work full-time in the US and at the University of York (see below). My roles have included development and architecture positions, including application/embedded development, middleware and product migration. Predominantly working in C-family (C, C++, C# and Java), as well as technologies utilised in web development, such as HTML, CSS, PHP, JSP, JavaScript, MySQL, Ruby-on-Rails, XML, AJAX. As member of the York Centre for Complex Systems Analysis, I concentrate on theoretical ecology problems. My work includes evolutionary optima, stochastic/deterministic trade-offs, hitting time problems applied to population dynamics and habitat fragmentation. During our work we received interdepartmental pump-prime funding (joint University, Mathematics and Biology). Use of Cloud computing (via Amazon EC2).

Mathematics and computing teaching fellow in the Department of Mathematics, with departmental personal computer and internal server support. A full-time position with no opportunity for research. Funding was gained to improve the on-line teaching facilities within the department.

My (EPSRC funded) doctoral research was concerned with potential theory and the functional and numerical analysis of classical water wave problems. The title of my thesis is "A Boundary Integral Equation Method for solving Second Kind Integral Equations arising in Unsteady Water Wave Problems".

This role combined many different responsibilities across the entire development program for SoftBrands. Managed outsourced C++, Java/J2EE Architect, Consulted on architecture, design and process (UML, RUP) for general company-wide development best-practice and for the Disney project.

The Masters included HCI, digital imaging, audio and networking. My Masters thesis has the title, "Investigating the effects of Adaptive Wavelet Lifting Schemes for the removal of speckle noise from SAR Images". Funded by a Panasonic Trust Fellowship.

Real-time, embedded C/C++ and assembly language development for low-level OSI stack protocols for a leading token-ring networking company.

A wide ranging mathematical (both pure and applied), statistical and computing foundation.

4 A-levels (including mathematics) and 9 GCSEs (including mathematics and English) all grade A or B.

Prof. Fraenkel received the maximum award from the Leverhulme Trust's Emeritus Fund for "senior established researchers to complete a research project that has already been begun and to prepare the results for publication". He has invited me to perform the computations and numerical analysis to complete his work on diffusing vortex solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations.

A uniquely funded project by the Department of Mathematics, Department of Biology and University of York Central Pump-prime Fund in combination. The fund was spent, in collaboration with Dr. Jon Pitchford and Dr. A. Jamie Wood, on writing the paper Evolutionary optimality in stochastic search problems and creating the EPSRC Grant Application Evolution under Uncertainty.

I recieved an award to buy out my teaching time to further develop the online teaching facilities in the Department of Mathematics at York.

My PhD on functional analysis and fluid dynamics, with Prof. Simon Chandler-Wilde and Dr. Peter Chamberlain, was funded from the EPSRC Doctoral Training fund in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Reading.

My MSc Multimedia Technology was funded by the Panasonic Trust's Fellowship funding scheme.
